I made the cutest double gauze dress. This is the first dress I made this spring. I have been looking at this pattern, McCall’s 8092, since last year. I first fell in love with the line art on Pinterest.
Fabric Selection
The recommended fabrics for the dress are cotton blends, poplin, and dotted swiss. However, I used this beautiful yellow double gauze cotton fabric that I purchased recently from Mood fabrics. The color is currently sold out, but it is reorderable. In addition, it comes in thirty-six various colors. I was unsure if the weight and lack of drape of the fabric would be suitable for the style of this dress. Regardless, I went for it, as I just love this mustard yellow color.

If you are looking for a very simple dress to make, I would highly recommend this pattern. It has three main pattern pieces, the front bodice, back bodice, and sleeves. There are options of a ruffle and belt. In addition, there are three sleeve variations, a short flutter sleeve, a three-quarters sleeve, and a long sleeve. I made the shorter version with the ruffle on the bottom, short flutter sleeves, and added the belt.
Sewing this pattern was a breeze. The only adjustment I made to this double gauze dress was to add four inches to the bodice of the dress before adding the ruffle. I prefer more length to my dress, and this one was a bit too short. All together it took roughly thirty minutes to sew. The cotton gauze is a dream to work with. It is very easy to sew. I did serge all the edges to prevent fraying. The only other option I should have added was side pockets.
If you are looking for a quick and easy dress to make, I would highly recommend this pattern. There are enough variations to create the style that works best for your body. It is nice and wide so it will compliment many sizes, and the belt is just enough to give you the tapered look around your waist. If off the shoulders is not your style, you can simply shorten the elastic around the top to make the dress sit up on your shoulders.
