Bohemian Dress with a Vintage Feel
I was able to test the Artist House dress for a small indie pattern company called Artist Made Patterns. I must say out of all of the patterns I have been testing lately, this one is much different. Instantly, I was drawn to this dress because it captures what I call a Bohemian vintage vibe. There are so many unique features that make this dress the perfect Bohemian dress for the summer.
Fabric Selection
When I saw the line art for this dress, I knew I had the perfect fabric in my stash. Once I saw some of the other testers versions, I debated in my head if I still wanted to use the fabric I picked. Eventually, I went with my gut and used this rayon fabric I purchased from fabric.com sometime last year. The color of the dress is one of my favorite. I have quite a few mustard made pieces as of lately. However, I knew the flowers in the fabric were perfect to enhance the Bohemian feel of the dress.
Distinctive Details
Now, to the details of this dress that I love. First, I must point out the exposed front zipper. At first, I was leaning towards a brass zipper. However, due to the lightweight of the fabric, I knew a brass zipper would be too heavy. I eventually found a zipper the exact red as the red of the flowers in the fabric.
Another feature I love is the details of the sleeves. You may need to look at the line art to see exactly what I am trying to describe. None of the pictures I took actually shown the details. The sleeves have a small accent piece added in between the shoulder and the gathered sleeve. This is a great place to add some color blocking. Also, I want to mention that the pattern comes with additional instructions if you want to paint on your fabric. This would be pretty cool on solid linen fabric.
Last, I love the generous side pockets on the dress. I did not mention that this pattern is available to be made as a top, which does not have pockets, as well as two dress lengths. There is a midi length, which I made, and there is a maxi length.
Overall Review
Overall, I love this Bohemian dress. It was pretty easily made. The instructions are very easy to follow, with great pictures that detail the steps. From start to finish, I was able to complete the dress within two hours. I love the flow of the fabric with the gathers in the waist. This dress would also look amazing in a gauze fabric.
