Stress affects everyone. Some more than others. Millions of people suffer from illnesses that cannot be explained and are tied back to stress. For years, I suffered from anxiety, insomnia, and constipation due to a high level of stress in my life. I sought my local family physician for years in search of some type of relief. Nothing worked, and for a little over 10 years, I became used to living a stressed life as if it were a normal way of living.
Day by day, my life has improved tremendously. I looked into natural or alternative methods to resolve my problems. Not only do these methods work, but they are so simple and easy to implement in anyone’s life. I must state that I am not a doctor, and am in no way telling anyone not to seek medical attention when they feel it is needed. It was not until I focused on these three things that my life started to improve. Here are my top three ways to relieve stress.
Stay Hydrated to Reduce Fatigue
We have all heard the recommended 8 cups of water a day. But there really is not a one size fit all solution. However, I can promise you once I really focused on how much water I was drinking, I was shocked. It was not nearly as much as I thought. Some days I was only getting 2 cups of water. When I increased my water intake to 10-12 cups a day, I saw an increase in focus and less fatigue within a few days. Less fatigue will bring on an increase in focus and energy.
Exercise Consistently
Exercise not only played a key role in my stress reduction, but it helped me with my overall self-esteem and reduce anxiety. When I started exercising, my energy levels soared. At first, I was exercising at night, doing a 40 minute Zumba DVD routine. Now I get up and exercise in the morning and do a mix of 20 minutes of cardio and 30 -40 minutes of weight training.
I went from waking up tired and feeling fatigued by noon to waking up feeling rested. I now have the energy to conquer my task throughout the day. This has reduced my levels of stress. The added self-esteem boost is a bonus. I find myself checking myself out in the mirror and smiling. Take small steps and add more movement in your day.
Get Adequate Sleep To Relieve Stress
It goes without saying that a sleep-deprived person is a cranky person. When I was missing out on sleep, I would awake tired and less focused. It also didn’t take very long for me to get irritated with anything, including my work and family. Since making exercise a priority, I drink much more water, and yes…sleep better.
I go to bed around 11 p.m. and get up now between 6-7 am. Overall, I have more energy. When working, I am much more focused on the task that I am doing. In addition, I know that everyone in my family appreciates the improvement in my health as well as the huge improvement in my attitude. Set a scheduled time to go to bed, and you will start to wake up refreshed.
