I was able to test the new release fro Tye Die Diva patterns, the Cee’s Tee. It is a knit and woven polo style shirt for kids with a wide range of sizes. My son is currently 4 years old. However, the pattern range is from 12 months to 10 years old. So if you have a little one within this range, please check this pattern out. There are a short sleeve and long sleeve option as well as a stand collar as well as the traditional collar.
It is a knit and woven polo because the base of the pattern, which includes the front, back and sleeves are made from a knit fabric. The remaining pieces which are the placket and collar are made from a woven fabric. This is different from most polo-style shirts I have for my son, so I decided to try this style out.
Fabric Selection
As I mentioned, there are not many pattern pieces and I was able to make this shirt with less than a yard of fabric. I find it very hard to find nice fabric for boys, but I was able to get two pieces I knew my son would love from my local JoAnn’s store. The monster truck and the construction trucks were a big hit. Since both of the fabrics had black accents in them, I decided to use some black cotton canvas from Robert Kaufman that I have in my stash.
Even if you have never tackled a button or a collar, constructing the shirts was not difficult at all. The instructions are very well written and the pictures are very helpful to follow. I did find the woven placket and collar was easier to sew than a knit collar. I used some Gutterman stretch thread that is made for straight stitch machines, which worked well for knit and woven pieces alike. All of my hems are finished with my cover stitch machine.
Overall, I love the way the shirts came out. My son is very happy, and could not wait to wear them. The size is perfect and no adjustments were made. This is a very user friendly pattern and a must have if you have kids. This staple shirt can be made numerous times in so many different fabrics.
