The new year has started off with many challenges. There are quite a few I am interested in participating in. The first one, in which I will discuss in this post, is the make nine 2020 challenge. This is my second time participating, as I joined first last year when I first joined the Instagram sewing community.
Last year, I was only able to finish 4 of my nine makes. However, that was still a victory for me. My make nine 2019 goal was to dress in more feminine attire. For the past ten years, and three kids later, I had adopted a very soccer mom mentality. It transferred to almost every part of my life, including my wardrobe. One of the best things the make nine challenge helped me do was to create more dresses. Also, it brought back some of my feminine confidence.
Make Nine 2020
My make nine 2020 challenge is to make more everyday clothes with a pinch of feminine thrown in. I have a great selection of patterns, including a few indie designed patterns. I am very determined to complete this list and add more functional clothes to my wardrobe.
Casual Makes
First is the Ginger jeans from closet case. I selected this pattern because I struggle with jeans in general. The closest thing I have found to a decent fit is the rock style jeans from Old Navy. With my height, and build, I need the extra high rise jeans just to ensure coverage of the bum area. However, this results in too high of a rise in the front. I decided to tackle making a pair for myself. I am keeping all fingers crossed that I can create the best fit ever.
Next is the Nova sweatshirt from Sinclair Patterns. I have tested for this indie company before and know their patterns have a great fit for most body types. I love the style of this sweatshirt. The hoodie and the kangaroo pocket is a must for my sweatshirts. Also, I think this will pair great with my next selection.
The Hudson joggers by True Bias. I actually made a pair of these last month, and love them! I made them with no alterations and they fit almost perfect. After washing and wearing them constantly, I knew I needed a few of these in my closet. I will lower the front rise by an inch and I know it will be the perfect fit.
Next on the list is the Landers pants by True Bias. The style of these pants stood out to me. And since I loved the Hudson joggers so much, I figured these would be a great pair to try next. My plan is to make a pair of linen.
Feminine Makes
Still keeping with pants, I want to M8009. I love view C, as it is a softer jumpsuit with some feminine lines. My plan is to make this with a zebra print challis fabric I picked up from LaFinch fabrics a few months back.
Moving to some softer lines, I have M7997. I have my eye set on view C. It is a double-breasted dress with an angled front hem. I have so much suiting fabric already. I will just have to match one for this pattern.
Next Vogue 9076. I have had this pattern for a year now, and could never get myself to make it. I love the lines on this dress. Soft flowy fabric will be perfect for any dress on this pattern. I will make view B.
The last dress is a vintage style dress. Simplicity 8013 has a view I really like. However, I settled on view D. My plan is to make this dress in a casual fabric so it is not so formal. I simply adore this style and cannot wait to make it.
Last on the list is M6800. This will be the first official coat that I will make. I have made tons of jackets and blazers, but never a coat. In fact, I do not even own a coat anymore. I was inspired by this style when seeing similar coats on Pinterest. I purchased some mustard wool coating just for this pattern.
